Description:
The first ever design-build contract issued by the Missouri Department of Corrections allowed the Crossroads Correctional Center maximum security prison complex to be in service within 500 days of contract award. The twelve (12) building campus is a mix of pre-engineered and conventional construction and consists of five (5) housing units, a central services building, central plant, vehicle maintenance center and an administration building. Heavy Structures furnished the roof support steel and cladding for the “butterfly” shaped housing units. Hot-rolled mill beams, anchored to load-bearing concrete walls, were used to form the gabled roof. Cold-form, Z-shaped structurals served as the secondary support steel. An architectural standing seam metal roof was used on all of the units within the complex. On the housing units, the architectural standing seam metal roof was installed over a conventional deck, which was used in lieu of bracing to transfer loads to the concrete walls.
