Seven (7) Housing Units: 24,000 Sq. Ft. each One (1) Housing Unit: 15,000 Sq. Ft.Description:
The third prison complex contract issued to Heavy Structures by the Missouri Department of Corrections was with the intention of replacing the old maximum security facility in downtown Jefferson City, Missouri that was decaying. Heavy Structures furnished the roof support steel and cladding for the “butterfly” shaped housing units as well as one “asterisk” shaped unit. Hot-rolled mill beams were anchored to load-bearing pre-cast walls. Cold-form, Z-shaped structurals served as the secondary support steel. An architectural standing seam metal roof was used on all of the units. On the housing units, the architectural metal roof was installed over a conventional deck, which was used in lieu of bracing to transfer loads to the concrete walls. The housing units were designed in the unique shapes to allow the guards to be located in a central core area and still maintain visual contact of each cell door down each wing of the unit.End Use:
