Description:

These 44 hangars in 10 different locations for F-15 and F-16 fighter jets were designed and built on a turnkey basis as part of Operation Noble Eagle-the homeland defense initiative developed after the September 11th terrorist attacks. The first 30 hangars needed to be substantially complete in 30 days to ensure they would be operational before winter weather set in. The remaining 14 hangars were allowed longer schedules. The buildings were designed, engineered and supplied by Heavy Structures through BlueScope Construction, who coordinated the construction efforts, procured additional materials and provided on-site supervision at all ten locations throughout the country. In addition, locally based builders constructed the projects at each location. All projects were functional on schedule. The single-slope structures were designed with a flat-bottom roof beam to accommodate the special doors and have a standing seam metal roof system and metal wall system. They all had rapid opening, vertical lift doors in the front and the back of the building that allow the aircraft to be rolling within 60 seconds of an order to scramble.
