Kenosha, Wisconsin
39,125 square feet
Wall System: Insulated Metal Panel
End Use: Aviation

This beautiful 39,125-square-foot hangar and office complex support business aircraft flying into the Chicago metropolitan area. Butler Heavy Structures provided the building design, structural steel, and roof cladding materials for the project.

Butler Heavy Structures chose to use a reverse frame design that provides for a clean roofline and column-free interior space. A 24′-deep super truss spans 240′ across the width of the building above the hangar doors and supports 6′-deep trusses that run from the front to the back of the building. A combination of one and two-story shop and office structures that run along two sides of the hangar are framed out of conventional steel.

The back wall of the hangar encompasses a curtain wall system supported by structural steel tube members supplied by Butler Heavy Structures with a ribbon of windows to provide natural light to the shop and office areas. A standing seam metal roof system was used on the hangar building and another metal roof panel was used as a ceiling throughout the hangar. A 24′-cantilevered drive-through canopy provides a dramatic entrance to the facility.
